Did the Republic China came first, or did Communist China came first? My grandpa belongs to Republic of China, who came to Taiwan over 60 years ago, he told me it is the Republic China that took over the country after the Chin dynasty hundred years ago. They started the revolution first, Communist took over by luck after they used up their men power for the revolution. Is that true?
How can I prove or disprove the contention that "The Republic of China is the legitimate government of Taiwan"? One of my friends has made the potentially intelligent observation that all of the poor treatment which Taiwan receives in the international community could be explained easily IF it could be proved that the Republic of China is not the legitimate government of Taiwan. So, this seems a good topic to debate in political science classes. Does the Republic of China have legitimacy just because it is there in Taiwan?? What factors are relevant? In general, how can I prove or disprove the contention that "The Republic of China is the legitimate government of Taiwan" .... Detailed answers will be appreciated.
What is the basis for considering the Republic of China on Taiwan to be an independent sovereign nation? It's becoming increasingly difficult to maintain peace in the Taiwan Strait, as both the Republic of China (ROC) and People's Republic of China (PRC) are claiming sovereignty over Taiwan. Interestingly, the PRC says that the ROC had sovereignty over Taiwan until 1949, whereupon (with the founding of the PRC on Oct. 1, 1949) it became the successor government to the ROC. But where is any legal documentation to show that the ROC has had sovereignty over Taiwan? Any ideas? Over a period of weeks, a professional researcher friend searched in the library, academic databases, and on the internet. She could find absolutely no definitive proof that the ROC has sovereignty over the areas of Formosa & the Pescadores (aka Taiwan). She mentioned that a common point of confusion is to say that "the territorial sovereignty of these areas was transferred to the ROC when Japanese troops surrendered on Oct. 25, 1945." However, international law does not support such an interpretation.
What is the legal status of the Republic of China on Taiwan? The Republic of China on Taiwan is often in the news these days, especially since it is vigorously trying to obtain increased international recognition. When the ROC was founded in 1912, Taiwan was part of Japan. Although on Sept. 2, 1945, Gen. MacArthur directed Chiang Kai-Shek to go to Taiwan to accept the surrender of Japanese troops, those surrender ceremonies did not mark the transfer of sovereignty of Taiwan to China. In fact, the Oct. 25, 1945, surrender ceremonies only marked the beginning of the military occupation of Taiwan. When did the military occupation end? No one seems able to provide a concrete answer. (Perhaps Taiwan is still under military occupation even today.) Today, many people in Taiwan claim that they are entitled to the right of self-determination under the UN Charter. Unfortunately the UN doesn't agree, and has consistently refused ROC-Taiwan's application for membership. So, what is the legal status of the ROC on Taiwan?
Traveling to the peoples of republic of china? Im planning on going to china next June for a few weeks, and i was wondering if there is is anything i really need to know, like important local laws an average tourist could brake or what to take with me or where to stay/not stay.
What if Emma Watson be the President of People's Republic of China? Emma Watson will do a liberal atrs program and dont want to be a moviestar. What is she gonna do after graduation? What about to be the leader of China? She is very cute and beautiful. Maybe we have had such a president. But Emma Watson would be better given her rapidly response and variety of gestures.
Do the Taiwanese people understand that Taiwan territory does not belong to the Republic of China? In 1895, "Formosa and the Pescadores" (aka Taiwan) were ceded to Japan in the Treaty of Shimonoseki. In 1912 when the Republic of China was founded, Taiwan was part of Japan. None of the Allies recognized any "transfer of sovereignty" to the ROC on the date of Oct. 25, 1945. The proclamation of "Taiwan Retrocession Day" , thus indicating a clear intention and objective to annex Taiwan territory, is a war crime. Article 4 of the ROC Constitution specifies that "The territory of the Republic of China within its existing national boundaries shall not be altered except by a resolution of the National Assembly." In regard to the alleged incorporation of Taiwan into Chinese territory, there is no resolution of the National Assembly on record. Under the customary laws of warfare, upon the surrender of Japanese troops the local populace in Taiwan will pass under a "temporary allegiance" to the conqueror, which in the post-Napoleonic era will be the principal occupying power.
When did the United States agree to defend Taiwan (Republic of China) against a Chinese invasion? Under what president? Was it a formal treaty (approved by the Senate)? I have seen this in the newspapers several times since the U.S. - Taiwan arms sales were announced. All the reading I have done on the R.O.C. say it's relationships with other countries are "unofficial". If this agreement was made before the current Chinese government was officially recognized by the United States; are we still bound by it? Would you say we are morally obligated to defend Taiwan?
How democratic is the People's Republic of China? Self explanatory question. Just wondering really, I hear they have some democratic rights, but the state assumes strict anti-democratic rule over there, and it's a single-party communist state. Just wondering really, anyone got any insight?
Is the Republic of China the legal government of Taiwan? What is the status of the Republic of China on Taiwan? It is confusing ... When exactly was the sovereignty of "Formosa and the Pescadores" transferred to the Republic of China? I can find no reference to such a transfer in the post-war peace treaty of San Francisco. At the same time, the Sino-Japanese Peace Treaty fully recognizes the provisions of that earlier treaty. Did any of the Allies recognize any transfer of the sovereignty of Taiwan to China upon the surrender of Japanese troops on Oct. 25, 1945? I have been unable to find any documents confirming that. Is there any basis under international law to say that the 1895 Treaty of Shimonoseki (ceding Taiwan to Japan) was invalid? There doesn't seem to be. After all, in a 1936 interview with Chairman Mao, he referred to Taiwan as being part of the Empire of Japan. Without a clear transfer of the title of Taiwan territory to the ROC, it would seem that Taiwan is not ROC national territory. Comments anyone?
Is the Republic of China on Taiwan a government in exile? In reviewing the history of Taiwan beginning in the mid-1940's, many researchers are now claiming that the Japanese surrender ceremonies on Oct. 25, 1945, only marked the beginning of the military occupation of the areas of "Formosa and the Pescadores." In other words, there was no "Taiwan Retrocession Day." Indeed, none of the Allied countries recognized any transfer of the sovereignty of "Formosa and the Pescadores" to China in 1945. With this analysis firmly in mind, it would then appear that when the ROC moved its central government to occupied Taiwan in mid-Dec. 1949, it became a government in exile. Furthermore, international law specifies that there are no actions which a government in exile can take to be recognized as the legal government of its current locality of residence. This would explain why, despite all the democratic advances made by the ROC in Taiwan in the past two decades, it is still shunned by the international community. Opinions anyone?
Why do capitalist nations do business with the People's Republic of China ? Communist China is upgrading their military with the profits from dealing with the west and western style nations. They will have an oil contract with Venezuela, therefore, they have no reason to improve civil liberties and civil rights. Manufacturing is the true way of earning capital. They opposed the US in Korea and in VietNam in a lesser role. Wal-Mart is a big supporter of taking manufacturing to them. General of the Army Douglas MacArthur would not have approved of Wal-Mart even though he was born in Little Rock Arkansas. The United States of America owes the People's Republic of China A LOT OF MONEY,because they have bailed the US out financially so do not be surprised if they become a bigger opposition to the USA than the Soviet Union was in the Cold War. The U.S.S.R. is extinct but not the People's Republic of China.
People's Republic of China laws on RC Aircraft? Well, I'm going to the PRC to live for the rest of my high school life, and I was wondering if they have any laws regarding RC Aircraft? I know that all airspace is controlled by the PLAAF, but I'm just curious if there are laws that prohibit the use of RC Aircraft.
Is PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA and CHINA the same thing? Hey guys, this is not a trick question. I need to know if they both me CHINA. The reason I ask is that I'm going to be sending a package to China but in the drop down menu of destinations it doesnt have CHINA, but rather PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA.
Does People's Republic of China have a military draft? My friend is going back to China in a few days, but he's worried. "Does People's Republic of China (NOT TAIWAN) have a military draft?" He's over 18 and has Chinese citizenship, but he plans to stay there for only 2 weeks. Does anyone know? Please note: we're not talking about Taiwan here.
Could the People's Republic of China "destroy" Wikipedia? Maybe I'm crazy, but it seems to me, that with Wikipedia's relaxed user settings, the Chinese government could easily go on and delete huge chunks of information that presented the PRC in a negative light. Considering the other kooky things the PRC has done in the past, this wouldn't seem too ludicrous. Is there some sort of failsafe in Wikipedia that prevents vandalism on this scale?
