Is PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA and CHINA the same thing?
Hey guys, this is not a trick question. I need to know if they both me CHINA. The reason I ask is that I'm going to be sending a package to China but in the drop down menu of destinations it doesnt have CHINA, but rather PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA.

- It's the same thing. conventional long form: People's Republic of China conventional short form: China
- ya 1 & sme
- People“s Republic of China is the same as China, but only Republic of China can refer to Taiwan. Taiwanese call their country "Republic of China".
- Yes and no. Both the China and Taiwan claim to be the "official" Chinese country. This dates back to when the communists overthrew the democratic leadership in China and they fled to Taiwan. When referring to China, most of the world is speaking about the People's Republic of China (China) and not the Republic of China (Taiwan). Since both countries claim the title of "China" Taiwan has agreed to be called Chinese Taipei when participating in international organizations, like the Olympics and the UN, in order to not confuse the two countries.
- Basically, they mean the same thing, at least to the overwhelming number of other countries that recognize the People's Republic of China (PROC) as the real China. The United Nations also recognizes PROC as the real China. The government in Taiwan calls Taiwan "Republic of China." To its mind, Taiwan is the real China. For a handful of other countries (mostly small ones), the real China is Taiwan (Republic of China). But since you are going to send a package to China - the real one, that is - I suppose this would be irrelevant. If you want to make sure, your package reaches its proper destination, why not simply write People's Republic of China? Nifty, isn't it? You might as well send me $5.00 for this advice. You owe it to me.
