How do you guys know about Taiwan??
Just impressions on his people, governance, tourism, culture, food, products and so on (no matter you really know it) Btw, some of my friends usually confuse Taiwan with Tailand (at least I wont). What is there famous for or what would you imagine? Guess that's the purpose why I ask this question.

- they make lots of stuff, nearly everything has made in Taiwan written on it. Taiwan is also a serious bone of contention between the US and China, Taiwan claims independance, yet China claim its part of China. The US supports Taiwanese independance, China opposses it.
- I'm Taiwanese and proud =D Food is the BEST!!!! you have not lived without tasting Taiwanese food. It's better than Chinese/ Indian/ Mexican/ Japanese/ Korean/ junk/ fast/ whatever food put together. Tourism, awesome. People are the nicest and most hospitable ever. There really is no way of saying "hello" in Taiwanese. It's "Have you eaten yet?" Taiwan is an independent country. I am very passionate about this subject. It's not part of China or the US. It has it's own president and democracy.

- living and working in Taiwan almost 7 years and married to a smart and beautiful Taiwanese woman. thats how I know about Taiwan, from an outsider's perspective.
- I include Taiwan to the group where Korea and Japan belong. In other words, to me, Taiwan gives totally different impression from that of the mainland. In fact, Taiwan is well known for its high-quality technologies and democratic political system.
- I'm Taiwanese! Generally tourists will find Taiwanese people quite hospitable people - even if you do not speak mandarin, you will find that almost everyone will try their best to guide you in english. I won't go much into political issues here since its a volatile topic. All I will say is that Taiwan is just like any other democratic country, except that the world doesn't want to officially recognised Taiwan as a country simply because they are being pressured and blackmailed by the Chinese communist party. As a tourist, esp in the capital (Taipei), you will find it pretty easy to navigate and explore. All main road signs have english underneath, including all routes to tourist destinations. In Taipei, the public transport is excellent, esp the MRT. I have provided the link to the tourism board so you can check it out. Taiwan is a melting pot for all kinds of food from all over the world (though you'd be hard pressed to find traditional African cuisine haha). Ever heard of pearl milk tea? It originated from Taiwan! Food in Taiwan ranges from world-class cuisine to humble traditional fare from night markets. Night markets are the lifeblood of Taiwanese culture - you haven't seen the real Taiwan untill you visit night markets! The best known one is Shih-ling night market in Taipei city. You'll also find an abundance of 24hr convenience stores (mainly 7-11) and karaoke bars. In terms of exported products, Taiwan is best known for stainless steel and electrical parts and appliances. We're also big on electrical gadgets - comouters, laptops, plasmas, MP4s, mobile phones (ppl change their mobiles about twice every month), the list goes on and on. I can go on for ages and ages about Taiwan, but if you really want to know what Taiwan is like, come visit us! Just make sure you're with a good tour operator because dodgy companies are out there. If you want to take things in at a more leisurely pace, you can always go without tourguides. You don't need a tour guide in Taipei (providing you have done enough research prior regarding where you want to go and how you're gonna get there). If you want to visit the national parks then booking a tour is probably best as driving could be confusing - even though the signs are in english, the place names can be confusing. Oh by the way before I forget, Taipei features the current tallest building in the world - the Taipei 101.
- Great teas, juices and fruites. Very warm nice people. Using disposable cups, plates, chopstics, spoons and many other things. Making everything but most of them are bad qualities. ( I did say 'most' not 'everything'. )
- I have visited Taiwan more than 15 times and is still going back there for holidays. Great scenery, great people, great food. I will leave it to the good Taiwanese to tell you more....
