I need some information about Taiwan travel (south Taiwan)? Please give some suggestion~?

We have a travel planning to Taiwan, most travel information we found are about Taipei, but we are interested with the new metro system in Kaohsiung, so trying to get some advise of transportation and hotel of south Taiwan. We will start our Taiwan trip from Taipei, then down to the south by train or their high speed rail, many thanks!
