Did the Republic China came first, or did Communist China came first?

My grandpa belongs to Republic of China, who came to Taiwan over 60 years ago, he told me it is the Republic China that took over the country after the Chin dynasty hundred years ago. They started the revolution first, Communist took over by luck after they used up their men power for the revolution. Is that true?

  1. communist china came first im prety shure! i went there last year
  2. Yes, the Republic of China came first Under a man who had studied in America, his name was Sun Yatsen. Then the Communists started forming under a man named Mao Zedong. Sun Yatsen was fighting peole at the time and hte communist party joined to help, then with the sympathy the communist party gained they were able to take over after Sun Yatsen's death
  3. The Republic of China (Taiwan) is older than Communist China ... during WWII the two leaders, Mao Tse Tung and Chiung Kai Shek (spelling may be incorrect on both names, since that has changed recently ... since I took Mandarin in college) fought side by side and knew each other very well ... when Mao took power in Peking (Beijing, now), Chiung Kai Shek withdrew to Taiwan, and island that had previously been a part of the government on the Chinese mainland. These two governments ... Communist vs 'Free' were at loggerheads over which actually rules China, with the Taiwanese being seen as the 'true rulers' by the U.N., until President Nixon went to Peking and started diplomatic relations with the Communist government there. Today, what is left over from that 'old fashioned' Communism still governs China, but they are not 'true Communists' any more than the government in Moscow is today. Yes, there was a 'revolution' in China, but BOTH SIDES were fighting against the Japanese invasion, and not against each other until the very end, after the Japanese lost to the US in WWII.
  4. Both call themselves "republics". The People's Democratic Republic of China - the communists - and the Republic of China - Taiwan. After World War II, the communist forces under Mao defeated the forces lead by Chaing. China has long been a center for turmoil and both forces wanted to fill the void left by the defeated Japanese forces in China. The communists won in 1948 and Chaing's forces went to Formosa (Taiwan) and remained with the assistance of the United States. Things remained static until President Carter, decided that turning its back on a democratic country (Taiwan) was not as important as recognizing China, the communists.
  5. The ROC started on the mainland before the communist party took over. Basically, ROC was in charge of China after the Qin dynasty, started by Sun Yat-Sen. However, his successor Cheung Kai-Shek, was a corrupt leader. Your grandpa may not feel this way because he would probably be biased. The reason why the communists were able to win over the people and win the civil war against ROC is because of Cheung's corruption. Cheung was basically a dictator. He had people assassinated if they disagreed with him. His army was malnourished, in bad health with not enough medicine, under-supplied, and in bad morale. This happened even though he was given millions of dollars and other resources from the US and had many US generals helping him, because he basically took the money for himself and his leaders. Taiwan was not involved until Cheung fled to the island in defeat at the end of the war (with the country's treasury and the money he'd stolen from the US on ships, by the way). The communists didn't win from luck, they won from manpower and high morale even though they didn't have a lot of resources or any help from such an influential power like the US. Many more people went to the communist side because their army was starkly different, with Mao fighting alongside the troops and openly discussing with them how to proceed. He showed them that he cared about them, making many sacrifices for their wellbeing. Mao is portrayed as a horrible person by many, but in truth, he started out as a good person in that he had the good of the country in mind. It was only later after he took over that perhaps he became corrupted and made a few bad decisions. Your grandpa may say that everything I said is untrue, but what I know is what I learned from a US university Chinese history course.
  6. I wish answerers would just answer the question, and not try to put an emotional or political spin on things. For one thing, Japan did not lose WWII to the USA. The last time I looked, representatives from ALL the Allied countries signed the surrender document including my country (Canada) and the Republic of China. Your grandfather is right. This is the year 97 in Taiwan--97 years from the founding of the Republic of China in 1912. (1912 was the year 1, according to how Chinese people count age). The Peoples Republic of China was not founded until 1949. The Communists prevailed in the civil war. I'm not a communist, but I think it is disrespectful to attribute their victory to "luck'. There was great loss of life, on both sides. Attributing a military loss to "luck" is to admit that war is too hard for you. The objective of war is destroy the ability of the enemies to carry out their mission. This means killing them or capturing them, by any means fair or unfair. I'm a western person, and I live in Taiwan. Chinese people killing Chinese people in the civil war is very sad to me. I hope that the differences between China and Taiwan can be resolved in an atmosphere of mutual respect, with the goal of peaceful co-existence. The way of life in Taiwan is very important to people here. San Min!

  9. Prior to Mao the nationalist chinese were our friends and we helped them against the raping scum japanese troops of world war 2. then the commies took over, murdered a few million people, indoctrinated millions with lies and voila... China hates us because of the commie slave traders that run the place. They are an atheist police state and the people are not allow to have a Bible. China is continuing to build up its forces. It continues to abuse human rights in a flagrant fashion. It constantly bullies and threatens its neighbors in the Pacific. it also fundamentally opposed to everything America stands for; freedom, tolerance and human rights. In the name of freedom!!!
  10. Sun Yatsen, a most respected person by all Chinese. We all agree with that? Not Taiwan who recently dismantled his memorial and sent all remainders of it to far off places? So, I don't know anymore! Sun Yatsen, the great leader of China, respected here in the PRC very much and yet the past year I saw the....the what in Taiwan tear down the most beautiful memorial! Who was first? China is first! Taiwan wants to desecrate a great leader? Why? Mao was also a great leader, he led China into a new world. China has had many great leaders, we hold them all very close. Taiwan, comes and goes like the waves, China is very stable, we hold Sun Yatsen as a great leader, Mao, also. Who was first? Who cares..............Taiwan rejected your great leader? Yes, you did the past year! The shame of China is on your heads.
  11. Republic of China, ROC, overthrown Qing Dynasty in 1912. They started with having a Qing army under their control revolted. At first, when Dr. Sun was still the president of China, nationalist party and communist party worked together to deal with the warlords all over the country. However, as soon as Dr. Sun passed away, Chiang Kai Shek took over, he not only got ride of many of his nationalist party political rivals, but also massacred tens thousands of communists. His troops were arresting people left and right on the streets, and execute them without trial. Note that since nationalists and communists were working together, many communists and nationalists had double party membership. Chiang was doing a complete "party cleaning". Then remaining communists launched uprising with a nationalist army which still under their control. They failed and ran into the mountain for hiding. During WWII Japanese invasion, both party worked together once again. At the end of WWII, communist party controlled north of the Great Wall, nationalist party controlled all major cities, population, factories, with 4x the troops of communists, also with the U.S. support. The civil war resumed in 1945. Nationalist lost several key battles and large amount of troops switched side, which turned communists into having advantage in number. As battle continued, all nationalists either switched side, or retreated to Taiwan as last stronghold. Chiang, by no means was any better than communists. Chiang, and Mao are both dictators. At least Man did not pass his "crown" to his son when he died. Chiang however, passed his "kingship" to his son, who also ruled Taiwan until he died. That should say enough about why U.S. was not backing the "democracy", nor "freedom". It's simply that a Big Business dominated government hates communism.
  12. The ROC was first, yes that's true. The commies were able to take over after the peasants got sick of the nationalist acting like a dictatorship (after WW2) while having low moral troops that easily got beaten the crap out of by badly armed commie troops. Since the nationalists didn't want to get absorbed by the commies, they accepted exile and ran off to Taiwan and restarted the ROC.
